Leather products exported to the EU should be wary of excessive boots DMF

On August 6, 2010, the EU's non-food product rapid alert system issued a new notification. It revealed that women’s boots manufactured in China contained 120mg/kg of dimethyl fumarate (DMF) in their inner lining, which violated the European Commission's strict regulations prohibiting any products containing DMF. As a result, the affected products were required to be removed from the market and recalled. Experts from PONY Test highlighted that DMF is harmful to human health and can cause skin irritation and allergic reactions. In response, the European Union introduced the DMF regulation (2009/251/EC), along with the REACH Regulation, while the United States implemented the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA). Additionally, the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 also sets strict limits on DMF to ensure consumer safety. Footwear and leather products remain a major export category for China, making it essential for manufacturers to stay updated with the ever-changing regulations imposed by European and American markets. Industry experts advise companies to closely monitor these regulatory updates and implement necessary adjustments to comply with international standards. This proactive approach not only ensures product safety but also helps maintain and increase export volumes in the long run. Staying informed and adaptable is key to remaining competitive in global markets.
