Macau's adult apparel retail sales rose sharply in the fourth quarter of last year

Statistics from the Statistics and Census Service of Macau indicated that in the fourth quarter of 2010, retail sales were 8.18 billion yuan (Macau yuan, the same below), up 25% year-on-year. Among them, sales of watches and jewellery were RMB 1.91 billion (23% of the total); department stores accounted for 16%, adult apparel accounted for 11%, leather goods accounted for 10%, auto and supermarket goods accounted for 7%, makeup and Health supplies accounted for 4% and automotive fuels accounted for 3%.

In the fourth quarter of 2010, retail sales rose 9% from the revised 7.53 billion in the third quarter. Larger increases were adult clothing (+34%), makeup and hygiene products (+33%) and department stores (+21%). .

The total retail sales in 2010 reached 29.5 billion yuan, a significant increase of 32% from 22.35 billion yuan in 2009; the most significant retail sales recorded were leather goods (+64%), watches and gold ornaments (+48%). And cars (+43%).

Excluding price factors, retail sales in the fourth quarter of 2010 increased by 16% year-on-year; footwear (+47%), leather goods (+44%), makeup and hygiene products (+44%) and adult clothing ( +30%) The most significant increase.

Comparing quarterly sales, the volume of sales in the fourth quarter also rose by 5%; of which volume of makeup and hygiene products rose by 35% and footwear and adult wear rose by 30% and 28% respectively. In addition, the volume of retail sales in 2010 increased by a significant 22% compared with 2009, of which leather goods increased by 55%.

In terms of sales of goods, about 19% of retailers reported that sales volume in the fourth quarter of 2010 was lower than that in the third quarter and 25 percentage points lower than the same opinion in the previous quarter; this indicates that sales volume has remained stable or has increased. Retailers accounted for 81%. In terms of sales prices, 52% and 36% of retailers said they were stable and rising respectively, while 12% thought that they had dropped.

Compared with the same quarter of 2009, about 68% of the merchants stated that the inventory in the fourth quarter of 2010 was normal, while 12% indicated that the inventory level was low.

About 79% of retailers expect sales of goods in the first quarter of 2011 to increase or remain stable compared to the fourth quarter of 2010, while 21% expect sales to decrease. At the same time, about 89% of retailers predict that sales prices will remain stable or increase, while 11% predict that prices will decline.
